Publics on Publics Off

Category: Zone BBS Suggestions and Feedback

Post 1 by YourBestFriend (Veteran Zoner) on Wednesday, 21-Jan-2009 15:04:28

Hey, all right, I'm going to try to explain this as clearly and concisely as I know how. I think that the status of an individuals publics should be listed on the main list. Now, the only way you can see if someone has their publics on or off is to go in to the box to send him/her a private quick note. I don't think it'd be too much to just stick the status on the main entry list, if you get my drift.
Your thoughts?

It's not that hard just to go in the edit bocx and find out. It doesn't mean you have to send a message.

Post 3 by Blue Velvet (I've got the platinum golden silver bronze poster award.) on Wednesday, 21-Jan-2009 16:07:09

Yeah, there was a time when the only way to find out was to go into someone's profile. So, the way things are now is a definite improvement, and it's not that much trouble.

Post 4 by Q (Take my advice, I'm not using it anyhow.) on Wednesday, 21-Jan-2009 16:11:46

I kinda like Maere's suggestion, it definitely has merit, and I'll draw the attention of the rest of the staff, to this topic at once.

or, to see them all at once, use /upub or /upriv

Post 7 by Q (Take my advice, I'm not using it anyhow.) on Wednesday, 21-Jan-2009 16:38:36

ah, thanks J, didn't think of that at the time. Silly me!

Post 8 by CrazedMidget (Sweet fantacy's really do come in small packages!) on Wednesday, 21-Jan-2009 18:06:05

Oh yeah, you can do commands, we dont need anymore things going up on the main list

Post 9 by andrew1989 (Account disabled) on Wednesday, 21-Jan-2009 18:37:08

well, maybe there could be an option to have it show up or not. It wouldn't be that difficult to do. Or maybe even a quicknote filter that is disabled by default, that lets people know if someone has turned their publics on or off. For example

<A href="http://www.zonebbs.com/viewuser.php?u=8061">Andrew1989</A> has disabled public quicknotes.

Hope this html comes through properly.

never mind. Damn html filters. Let's just assume we've got a link titled Andrew1989 that goes to my profile, and beside that, it says something that clearly conveys to anyone reading it that the user in question, in this case me, has either disabled or reenabled public quicknotes.

Post 11 by SingerOfSongs (Heresy and apostasy is how progress is made.) on Wednesday, 21-Jan-2009 20:25:38

I actually rather like the idea, have agreed with it when it's been suggested in the past, but I'm apparently in the minority.

Post 12 by Eponine (If you find a rare Gem, hold it tightly!) on Wednesday, 21-Jan-2009 20:35:59

Hey, i'm all for the publics on/off alerts. That's not a bad idea really.

Post 13 by Brooke (I just keep on posting!) on Wednesday, 21-Jan-2009 22:31:12

I'm not big on this idea. It only takes two seconds to go into the list and check.

Post 14 by andrew1989 (Account disabled) on Thursday, 22-Jan-2009 8:42:57

not if there are a whole bunch of people logged in. Like I said, why not have it as a feature you could enable or disable.

Post 15 by cumbiambera2005 (i just keep on posting!) on Thursday, 22-Jan-2009 12:56:49

I agree with Andrew and with Singer of Songs on this one.

Post 16 by ArtRock1224 (move over school!) on Thursday, 22-Jan-2009 13:23:41

I really don't understand the opposition to this one. Sounds like a great idea to me. For example:

Artrock1224
YourBestFriend (N)
GodsChild (O)
Admin (O)
Inu-Princess2006
Farmer (N)

the letter"O" represents quicknotes off, in the same way that "N" represents new.
Sounds awesome to me. So, adminand godsChild wouldn't have quicknotes on. Simple.

for those complaining that it's useless and makes clutter, then why is the letter"N" already designated for every new member on the login list?

Post 17 by blbobby (Ooo you're gona like this!) on Friday, 23-Jan-2009 7:07:50

To answer the previous poster's question, the letter n was put there by a request similar to this in the suggestions board. It is in hopes that folks would want to welcome new users to the zone.

As far as this suggestion goes: my view is "ho hum". I'll be happy either way.

I personally prefer things as they are. More text on the page would just clutter it more, and isn't necesary as the information is already available. It doesn't take 2 seconds to check.

Post 19 by changedheart421 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Sunday, 25-Jan-2009 11:18:58

I love post 1's suggestion too. It would just be easier you know? Like ok Notes Off Or QNS Off or something.

Post 20 by rat (star trek rules!) on Tuesday, 27-Jan-2009 15:20:28

i think it's fine right now personally, in the qn selection box is good enough or using the test commands

Post 21 by cumbiambera2005 (i just keep on posting!) on Tuesday, 27-Jan-2009 21:01:20

The problem with those letters is, it interfeers with the status. Oh never mind it doesn't show on the main page, i feel stupid lol!

Post 22 by YourBestFriend (Veteran Zoner) on Thursday, 19-Feb-2009 13:21:58

Well, I recieved opposition where I suspected I might. Nice to see people can't really surprise you anymore. lol

Post 23 by Harp (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Thursday, 19-Feb-2009 13:29:48

I love the idea. I can see it now in my minds eye!
YourBestFriend P/Off
Harp P/On
BlackBird P/On
Chris N P/Off.

It's brilliant. Let's have it immediately!

Dan.

Post 24 by cumbiambera2005 (i just keep on posting!) on Thursday, 19-Feb-2009 14:05:46

I still think that's a lot of clutter.

Post 25 by PorkInCider (Wind assisted.) on Thursday, 19-Feb-2009 18:07:12

I knew there was going to be at least one who'd miss dan's sarcasm there.

Post 26 by Blue Velvet (I've got the platinum golden silver bronze poster award.) on Thursday, 19-Feb-2009 22:21:08

I never want to miss Dan's sarcasm. LOL.

Sorry, I think the suggestion is pretty lame. It's plenty easy to see who has publics on or off.
